July 2024 – Summer is Here!

Summer is in full swing here in the Rogue Valley! Nice and toasty, am I right?

For those that were able to attend the weed day work party on June 26th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, we hope that you enjoyed this change of pace from a sit-down meeting. We would love your feedback!

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28th from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM in the Lewis Conference Room at RVCOG, or via Zoom. A meeting agenda and Zoom information will be sent out as we get closer.

Please read on for weed-related news, grant updates, the “weed of the month,” and upcoming events here.

May 2024 – It’s Beginning to Feel More Like Summer!

Another month and it will be summertime! Who’s a summer person? Personally, I’m a fall/winter gal, but there are certainly fun things that you can really only do (comfortably) during the summer.

Remember, rather than a sit-down meeting next month, we are planning for a weed day work party for June 26th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. This work party will take place along the Bear Creek Greenway near the Dean Creek Road entrance (north end). Coffee, water, and snacks will be available.

For those that missed the last meeting, please see the JaJo CWMA April Meeting Minutes.

We’re so close to spring! Can you feel it, or are you still feeling the time change?

Looking ahead, check out the JaJo CWMA Meeting Agenda for April. We have a guest speaker, Joel Price from the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA), coming to chat with us about alternative ways of fighting invasive plants. Also, please note that we are planning for a weed day work party instead of a traditional meeting for June 26th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

For those that missed the last meeting, please see the JaJo CWMA February Meeting Minutes.

Whew, January is already almost over! We’re beginning to plan for spring and summer events, continuing to work on grants (or awaiting news on past grant submissions), prepping for treatment work, and much, much more.

When you have a chance, please look over the JaJo CWMA Meeting Agenda for February. If you have items to add, please feel free to do so or let me know what you would like to see included on the agenda.

CWMA November Newsletter

Hello JaJo CWMA Team!

It’s that time of the year where members are actively preparing grant proposals for submittal in December, while others are continuing field work and restoration efforts, attending insightful workshops and conferences, and participating in other great environmental activities.

Last month’s meeting welcomed both new and returning members, with a full, informative agenda. Thanks to all who attended! Although I was unavailable for the October meeting, I’m looking forward to future CWMA meetings.

CWMA October Newsletter

Welcome to Autumn in Oregon: winter when you wake up, spring when you arrive to work, summer at the end of the work day, and fall in the evenings. It’s layers season, everyone!

Many of us are bustling away on restoration projects, performing weed treatments, planning for grant submissions, participating as environmental educators for the Rogue Basin Salmon Watch program, and much, much more.

While our August 2023 meeting was cancelled, we do have an upcoming meeting on Wednesday, October 25th from 2:00 – 3:30. If you plan on attending and wish to share something exciting with the group, I can add you to our growing agenda. Just reach out to: weeds@roguepartners.org.

Also, have you checked out the CWMA Website? It is still a work in progress and suggestions are always welcome!

Spring has sprung in the Rogue Basin (Basin) and that means a busy time of year for all of us at the Jackson and Josephine County CWMA. Thank you to those who were able to attend our April meeting. We went over partner updates and weed work within the Basin and had a presentation on our Rogue Basin Aquatic Survey & Control grant. Thank you to Courtney Gattuso for her presentation on the Western Invasives Network (WIN) at our February CWMA meeting. This launched an awesome discussion among members on how our CWMA may use the WIN to enhance collaboration and coordination! In other news, Nate Gehres of the Applegate Partnership & Watershed Council is now the environmental stewardship representative for the Oregon Invasive Species Council! Thank you for your participation Nate and we can’t wait to hear more about it! Additionally, Kyle Strauss was awarded the Significant Weed-Finder plaque at the Oregon Inter-agency Noxious Weed Symposium in December, congratulations! Let’s keep up the great work!
